Time to Get your Mastodon ID Verify By Threads (Meta)

By enabling you to verify your Threads profile on Mastodon, Wednesday’s meta contributed a bit to Fedoras. The business announced that it is introducing support for “rel=me” links, which allow two accounts to be linked by pointing to each other.

Here’s how to verify categories in our Mastodon Threads profile. It is important to note that for the verification to be successful, you must follow the order.

  1. Link your Threads profile to your Mastodon profile.
  2. In one of the “Additional fields” in your Mastodon profile, provide a link to your Threads profile.
  3. Save the changes.

Your Mastodon profile will likely display the verification as a green highlighted bar and a checkmark around the Threads link. The screenshot below shows what the verification looks like.

When you’re done, the Mastodon server basically pings the threads page to see if it has a “rel=me” web property and to make sure your threads Profile link back to Mastodon. This ‘verification’ does not reveal anything more than your ownership of said Threads profile. You can use this property to validate your Threads profile on websites other than Mastodon that support a network of federated, decentralized servers, including Wikipedia, Grooter, and Flipboard.

However, some Mastodon users have reported that this approach is ineffective. According to Threads Engineer, the team is investigating authentication issues. The engineer also mentioned that, as of now, there is no mechanism to verify your Mastodon profile on Threads.

Other features added to Threads as part of this update included the option to send posts directly to Instagram DMs, the ability for users to add custom alt text to images, and a button that made posts in mentioning other users made easier.

Additionally mentioning the change in his piece, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri said it was a “meaningful step toward embracing open standards and fidelity.” He added that the business is using an “early version” of Threads on the web internally. This indicates that a desktop version of the social network with all the features will be available in a few weeks.

Mosseri said last month that the Threads app would not support FedEx at launch due to technical difficulties. However, he said the business was “fully committed to building support for the Activity Pub.”

As users migrated to FedEx last year, developers created multiple link verification services for Mastodon after Elon Musk took control of Twitter.
